When is blood work needed and why?

  • Blood work is highly recommended before all surgical procedures that require any kind of anesthesia
  • Clotting analysis is recommended prior to most surgeries, including declaws
  • Annual blood work panels for patients 7 years and up
  • For most sick animals this helps us better diagnose the problem
Annual blood work allows us to keep a yearly record of important blood values. These values can fluctuate over time however, if a trend appears we can stop a problem before it becomes a problem. These values include liver, kidney, RBC, WBC, electrolytes, glucose etc. Starting treatment early allows for the best possible outcome for our patients.
